Q. What is Wireless Broadband?
A. Wireless Broadband is an internet service provided by ICE Communications Ltd, it allows businesses and home users to access the internet wirelessly at incredible speeds for a flat monthly fee.
Q. What are the advantages of Wireless?
A. Wireless connectivity allows users to access a high-speed internet connection, quickly and securely.
  • There are no cables to lay so connections can be made in a matter of hours.
  • There is no need to make any changes to existing phone lines, in fact you don't even need a phone line.
  • Over-the-air encryption scrambles data bits and prevents interception.
  • Subscriber equipment locking (Only allows authorised subscriber equipment to connect to the base station)
Q. What does "Always On" mean?
A. "Always On" internet connection means that your computer is assigned a static IP address, this IP address is unique to you and identifies yourself on the internet. This is a requirement for accessing certain network services. "Always On" also means that there is no need to dial up each time you wish to use the internet. This cuts out any telephone bills, annoying delays in dial up and engaged tones!
Q. What difference will Broadband make?
A. With Broadband you can download web pages much quicker than you can with a regular dial-up or an ISDN connection. Broadband is ideal for downloading large files such as movies, music, mp3 files and e-mails with files attached. These quicker speeds will make your internet usage much more efficient saving you time and money while also making your internet experience much more enjoyable.
Q. How does "Wireless Broadband" compare to DSL?
A. Wireless Broadband is available now, and can be installed in hours, it is a lot more flexible than DSL and can be moved from site to site without much hassle. Wireless Broadband can achieve speeds quicker than DSL services offered at present. Download speeds of up to 56 Mbps can be provided if required.
Q. How does "Wireless Broadband" compare to Satellite internet connections?
A. Wireless Broadband is more reliable and quicker than satellite internet connections, it does not suffer from the same 'lag' time which satellite connections do and is not as affected by weather conditions.
Q. Can the Broadband internet connection be shared by more than one PC?
A. Yes the internet connection can be shared with many pc's at one site.
Q. Are there any download limits?
A. No. Unlike eircom's DSL service we do not place a download limit on the service and do not charge any excess.
Q. Is this a 'digital' service?
A. Yes the connection is fully digital making it an extremely reliable and efficient method of transmission, especially when compared to standard telephone lines.
Q. Can I use the telephone at the same time as I surf?
A. Yes. You can use your existing telephone lines to make and receive calls while using the internet. Wireless Broadband does not affect your phone lines in any way.
Q. Who owns the installed equipment
A. All equipment remains property of ICE Communications, should the contract be terminated, ICE Communications will remove all installed equipment from the Users premises.
Q. What is the minimum contract period?
A. The minimum contract period is one year.
Q. Do I even need a telephone line
A. No!
Q. What are the pc requirements?
A. Any pc running Windows 95 or greater (OR MAC OS7.5) with a Network interface card (10/100Base-T or better) and a CD-Rom drive.
